Job Title: Medical Officer (3 Positions) Organisation: MRC Uganda Duty Station: Masaka, Uganda About Organisation: The Medical Research Council (MRC UK) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence with dominant research themes in the areas of HIV and emerging infections, vaccines and immunity, and chronic diseases and cancer. Through a multidisciplinary approach, intersecting basic science, epidemiological research, social-behavioural research and the conduct of new intervention evaluation studies, the Unit contributes knowledge on changing epidemics and diseases, the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide. Following the signing of strategic transfer agreements between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Medical Research Council (MRC UK), the Unit formally joined LSHTM on 1st February 2018. The exciting new partnership will boost research capacity into current and emerging health issues in Africa and throughout the world. Responsibilities
Principal duties; To Recruit, screen, consent, enrol and follow up research participants according to study protocols; Provide clinical care, safety monitoring, and appropriate referrals for study participants; Conduct study assessments, complete source documents and case report forms, and ensure timely and accurate data collection; Prescribe and administer investigational products and other study-related medications where required; Ensure participant safety, protocol compliance, and accurate documentation throughout the study; Support study coordination activities and implementation of clinical trial procedures; Participate in the preparation and review of study documents, regulatory submissions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), reports, abstracts and scientific manuscripts;and, Support professional development activities and other duties delegated by the Principal Investigator. Line Management; Supervise and support study staff including nurses, counsellors, field workers and other project personnel; Participate in staff performance management and capacity-building activities; Ensure proper management of participant reimbursements and study-related allowances; and, Collaborate with research teams and stakeholders to facilitate efficient study implementation. Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery; Minimum of two (2) years’ clinical practice experience;
working in clinical research settings; Knowledge of diagnosis and management of common acute and chronic conditions; Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical trial conduct; Knowledge of preventive healthcare interventions, including HIV/AIDS; Good communication, report writing and interpersonal skills; Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; and, Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, with strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
