Position Summary

Key
Responsibilities
- Antenatal Care
- Conduct antenatal care (ANC) assessments and examinations for pregnant women, in line with the Uganda focused antenatal care (FANC) guidelines.
- Screen, monitor, and manage common and high-risk pregnancy conditions, referring complicated cases promptly to the Clinical Officer/In-Charge or higher-level facility.
- Provide health
Education
- Provide family planning counseling and services, including provision of short-term and long-term methods within scope of practice.
- Offer cervical cancer screening, sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening/treatment, and reproductive health education.
- Support adolescent and youth-friendly reproductive health services with confidentiality and sensitivity.
- Promote birth spacing and responsible reproductive health choices in line with national family planning guidelines.
- Identify and respond promptly to maternal, newborn, and gynecological emergencies, initiating first-line emergency management within scope of practice.
- Coordinate timely and safe referral and transfer of high-risk mothers, newborns, or complicated cases to higher-level health facilities.
- Communicate clearly with families and the receiving facility during referrals to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain readiness of emergency delivery and newborn resuscitation equipment and supplies at all times.
- Maintain accurate and complete maternal, newborn, and child health records, registers, and partographs in line with MoH Health Management Information System (HMIS) requirements.
- Compile and submit timely maternal and child health reports (ANC, deliveries, PNC, immunization) to the Clinical Officer/In-Charge and District Health Office channels.
- Participate in maternal death reviews, audits, and other quality-of-care improvement processes as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and data protection standards in all record-keeping and reporting.
- Maintain and stock the labour ward/maternity unit with essential drugs, delivery kits, and newborn care supplies.
- Ensure proper sterilization, infection prevention, and control (IPC) practices in the maternity/labour ward.
- Monitor and report on equipment functionality (e.g., delivery beds, resuscitation equipment, weighing scales) and coordinate maintenance or replacement.
- Contribute to budgeting and procurement planning for maternal and newborn health supplies.
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Officer/In-Charge and fellow health workers to ensure coordinated, quality maternal and child health services.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuous professional development activities.
- Collaborate with Village Health Teams (VHTs) and community health structures to strengthen antenatal follow-up, birth notification, and postnatal home visits.
- Participate in community health education, outreach clinics, and safe motherhood awareness campaigns.
- Engage and educate mothers, families, and the local community on safe motherhood practices, reflecting Christian values of compassion and dignity for every mother and child.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Officer/In-Charge or AsOne Ministries leadership as needs arise.
- Valid registration and practicing license with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC), in good standing.
