Job Summary:
The Business Development Officer will be responsible for identifying opportunities, developing markets, driving revenue growth, leading the sales function and ensuring that Brythos Africa’s different business lines are commercially developed. This is not purely an administrative supervisory position. The successful candidate will be expected to actively drive business growth, identify opportunities, support major negotiations, develop partnerships and hold overall responsibility for commercial performance across the company’s service portfolio.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Business Development Strategy
Develop and implement the company’s business development strategy.
Identify new markets, customer segments and revenue opportunities.
Identify potential partnerships and strategic business relationships.
Develop commercial opportunities across all Brythos Africa services.
Explore opportunities for new products, packages and revenue streams.
Translate business opportunities into actionable commercial plans.
Sales Leadership
Directly supervise Sales Executives and Sales Officers.
Set sales targets and monitor performance.
Manage the company’s sales pipeline.
Coach and support sales team members.
Monitor lead generation, conversion and revenue performance.
Hold sales personnel accountable for agreed results.
Participate in major client negotiations and presentations.
Develop systems for tracking prospects, opportunities and completed sales.
Magazine & Advertising Business
Develop the commercial strategy for the Brythos Africa magazine.
Develop advertising products, packages and commercial opportunities.
Identify strategic advertisers and sponsorship opportunities.
Develop relationships with major advertisers and partners.
Explore special editions, partnerships and other commercial opportunities.
Publications, Consultancy, Research & Communications
Identify potential clients for Brythos Africa’s research, consultancy, publications and communications services.
Develop cross-selling opportunities.
Support proposal development and commercial negotiations.
Identify opportunities for contracts and institutional partnerships.
Tours & Travel
Oversee the commercial performance of Brythos Tours & Travel.
Work closely with the Destination Marketing Officer.
Identify new tourism markets, customer segments and partnerships.
Develop opportunities for corporate, group and individual travel.
Monitor tourism sales, bookings and revenue performance.
Performance Management
Prepare regular commercial performance reports.
Track revenue, clients, sales pipeline, conversion and retention.
Identify underperforming areas and implement corrective actions.
Develop dashboards and reporting mechanisms for management.
Provide management with recommendations based on commercial data.
Overall revenue growth.
New clients acquired.
Value of new business generated.
Sales team performance.
Sales conversion rate.
Pipeline value and quality.
Client retention and repeat business.
New markets developed.

Reporting Structure
The Business Development Officer reports to Brythos Africa management/company leadership and provides commercial leadership to the Sales Executives, Sales Officers, Destination Marketing Officer and other business development functions as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Commerce, Business Management, Business Development or a related field.
- 4–5 years of relevant experience in business development, sales management, commercial management, marketing or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to generate business and drive revenue.
- Strong understanding of sales and business development processes.
- Experience managing and developing sales teams.
- Strong negotiation and client relationship management skills.
- Ability to identify new markets and revenue opportunities.
- Strong analytical and commercial thinking.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong leadership and people-management abilities.
