Job Description

To grow Old Mutual’s revenue, client value, and brand visibility by driving coordinated cross-selling of products and solutions across the three Business Units — Old Mutual Investment Group, Short-Term Insurance (GI), and OM Life Assurance. The Relationship Manager will identify and convert cross-sell opportunities within the existing client base of each business, generate new business, deepen client relationships, and improve client retention across the wider Old Mutual group, working closely with the Heads of Marketing and Distribution in each segment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue cross-selling opportunities for Old Mutual Investment Group, Short-Term Insurance (GI), and OM Life Assurance products within the existing client base of each Business Unit.
  • Proactively market the full suite of Old Mutual solutions to current and prospective clients, positioning the group’s integrated value proposition rather than single-product offerings.
  • Act as the primary relationship point of contact for clients spanning more than one Business Unit, ensuring a seamless and consistent client experience across OMIG, GI, and Life.
  • Develop and execute a cross-sell and client engagement plan for each Business Unit, in line with the overall marketing and distribution strategy of Old Mutual Investment Group, General Insurance, and Old Mutual Life Assurance.
  • Originate new business by identifying prospective clients and introducing them to the relevant Business Unit(s) and support the onboarding process to conversion.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with existing clients across all three Business Units to protect and grow wallet share and prevent client attrition.
  • Develop and implement client retention strategies for existing clientele, working with each Business Unit to address client needs proactively.
  • Support and enhance Old Mutual’s brand visibility through participation in industry events, client engagements, and marketing activities coordinated with each Business Unit’s Marketing and Distribution function.
  • Provide responsive, proactive, and professional client service that expands Old Mutual’s overall share of client business.
  • Track and report on cross-sell pipeline, conversion rates, and retention performance to the Heads of Marketing and Distribution of the respective Business Units.
  • Collaborate with product, marketing, and distribution teams across OMIG, GI, and Life to package and pitch bundled or complementary solutions to clients.
  • Ensure all client engagement is conducted in line with Old Mutual’s compliance, KYC/AML, and fair treatment of customers requirements.

  • Engage existing clients regularly to understand evolving needs and introduce relevant products from the other Business Units.
  • Ensure high standards of client service and responsiveness across all touchpoints, treating customers fairly and avoiding mis-selling or over-selling.
  • Achieve set client retention targets across the three Business Units, minimising client attrition and lapses.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and professional handling of client queries, disputes, and requests.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information at all times.
  • Internal Business Processes
  • Maintain a coordinated client engagement and account plan covering all three Business Units for each key client.
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Distribution teams of Old Mutual Investment Group, General Insurance, and Old Mutual Life Assurance to align on cross-sell campaigns, messaging, and client targeting.
  • Maintain an accurate, up-to-date database of clients, cross-sell opportunities, and engagement history.
  • Prepare and submit regular (e.g. weekly/monthly) cross-sell and business development reports to the Heads of Marketing and Distribution of each Business Unit.
  • Ensure compliance with Old Mutual’s risk, regulatory, KYC, and AML requirements in all client dealings.
  • Brand & Visibility
  • Represent Old Mutual at industry, client, and community events to build brand awareness and generate leads.
  • Support the design and execution of joint marketing initiatives that showcase Old Mutual’s integrated Old Mutual Investment Group, General Insurance, and Life offering.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for Old Mutual, promoting the company’s reputation and visibility in the market.

  • Maintain up-to-date product knowledge across Old Mutual Investment Group, General Insurance, and Old Mutual Life Assurance.
  • Attend all relevant training and development programmes arranged by the respective Business Units.
  • Continuously build market and competitor intelligence to inform cross-sell and retention strategies.
  • ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING (AML) EXPECTATION
  • The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to, implementation of, and adoption of Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Sanctions-related policies, procedures, and process requirements within the company and its subsidiaries. This includes execution of customer due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with Know-Your-Customer (KYC) standards, conducting ongoing and enhanced due diligence, and maintaining data quality. Additionally, the role involves identifying and monitoring potential AML, Sanctions, or Compliance breaches and unusual activities, and escalating these concerns to the Risk and Compliance Office for further action.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognised university.
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g. Insurance, Financial services, or Marketing) is an added advantage.
  • At least 3–5 years’ experience in relationship management, sales, or business development, preferably within financial services and insurance.
  • Demonstrated experience in cross-selling or multi-product client management is an added advantage.
