Security Team Leader

The Security Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all security operations at the company’s facilities, including the factory, warehouses, offices, and surrounding premises. This role leads a team of security guards, ensures the safety of personnel and assets, monitors security systems, responds to incidents, and maintains strong relationships with local law enforcement and emergency services. The Security Team Leader plays a critical role in creating a secure and safe working environment for all employees, visitors, and contractors.

Key

Responsibilities

• Security Operations & Surveillance
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily security operations to ensure the protection of company property, personnel, and assets.
• Monitor CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and access control systems to detect and respond to security breaches.
• Conduct regular patrols of the factory premises, warehouses, offices, and perimeter fences.
• Ensure all entry and exit points are properly secured and that vehicle and personnel access is strictly controlled.
• Team Leadership & Management
• Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of security guards, ensuring they are properly deployed and performing their duties effectively.
• Assign daily shifts, tasks, and patrol routes to security personnel based on risk assessments and operational needs.
• Conduct regular briefings, drills, and performance reviews to maintain team discipline and readiness.
• Manage security staff attendance, leave, and disciplinary matters in accordance with company policies.
• Incident Response & Emergency Management
• Respond promptly to security incidents, including theft, vandalism, trespassing, unauthorised access, fire, and medical emergencies.
• Coordinate with local police, fire services, and emergency responders during critical incidents.
• Conduct preliminary investigations into security breaches, prepare incident reports, and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in emergency evacuation drills and support the EHS team in workplace safety initiatives.
• Access Control & Visitor Management
• Supervise the registration and control of all visitors, contractors, and delivery personnel entering the premises.
• Verify identification and issue visitor passes, ensuring all visitors are properly escorted when required.
• Monitor the movement of vehicles and goods in and out of the facility, checking all documentation to prevent unauthorised removal of company property.
• Ensure all outgoing goods are verified against delivery or dispatch documents.
• Security Systems & Equipment Maintenance
• Ensure all security equipment, including CCTV cameras, alarms, access control systems, and communication devices, are functioning properly.
• Report any equipment malfunctions to the Administration Manager and coordinate repairs or replacements.
• Maintain an inventory of security equipment, including torches, radios, metal detectors, and protective gear.
• Regularly test security systems and conduct security audits to identify vulnerabilities.
• Reporting & Documentation
• Maintain accurate records of daily security activities, incidents, visitor logs, vehicle movement, and shift handovers.
• Prepare regular security reports for management, summarising incidents, trends, and recommendations.
• Document all security-related incidents and investigations in accordance with company policies.
• Maintain a log of all keys and access cards issued to employees and contractors.
• Security Awareness & Training
• Conduct security awareness training for employees on topics such as personal safety, theft prevention, and emergency response.
• Train security guards on proper procedures, emergency protocols, and use of security equipment.
• Organise regular security drills to test response times and preparedness.
• Promote a culture of vigilance and security consciousness among all staff.
• Stakeholder & Community Relations
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with local police, community leaders, and neighbouring businesses.
• Coordinate with local authorities on security matters and share relevant intelligence.
• Act as a point of contact for security-related inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
• Qualifications &

Experience

• in security operations, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Proven
• in managing security teams in a factory, industrial, or large-scale corporate environment.
• in incident response, access control, and CCTV monitoring.
• Prior military, police, or other law enforcement
• is a strong advantage.
• Language Requirement (Mandatory):
• Fluent in English (spoken and written) – must be able to write detailed incident reports, communicate with external authorities, and brief management in English.
• Proficiency in local languages (e.g., Luganda, Swahili) is a strong advantage.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong knowledge of security best practices, access control systems, and surveillance technology.
• Understanding of CCTV systems, alarm systems, and security reporting tools.
• Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, email) for report writing and record-keeping.
• Knowledge of emergency response procedures, including fire safety and first aid.
• Certifications (Preferred):
• Certified Security Supervisor (CSS) or equivalent.
• First Aid and Fire Safety Certification.
• Surveillance and CCTV Systems Operation Certificate.
• Soft Skills:
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• High integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness.
• Calm and composed under pressure, especially in emergencies.

Education

• Minimum of a Diploma in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Business Administration, or a related field.
• A Bachelor’s degree is an advantage.
• Formal security training or certification (e.g., from a recognised security training institution) is highly desirable.

Requirements

• Valid driving permit and willingness to travel occasionally between company sites.
• Physically fit and able to conduct foot patrols and respond quickly to emergencies.
• Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
• Must reside in or be willing to relocate to Kapeeka or nearby areas.
• Clean criminal record is mandatory.
